The Vote Conflict of 2020
2020 has been a bitter year. With the ridiculous happenings in the world today, we, the American citizens, have seen our country go through unprecedented conflicts over the general election which never should have occurred. The right wants all the “legal” votes counted. The left wants all the votes counted. The conflict, which should not even exist, simply comes down to the definition of legal. A legal ballot is one submitted by a legal voter. When you have more ballots being submitted in some states than there are registered voters, it seems to lend credence to a bit of a problem.
This has been the only year in which unsolicited absentee ballots were mailed to recipients – alive and dead. There were no measures taken to ensure the validity of the votes cast. Hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots poured into clerks' offices in key states. These absentee ballots are what flipped the election results and ensured a Biden-Harris victory.
I know by now my friends on the left are probably seething over this remark. However, those of you who are guilty of this are the same people who believe President George W. Bush was unfairly elected president due to the recount in Florida. I suppose if it does not suit your political views, then it must be illegal or unfair. Yes, there are some of us right-wingers who are guilty of the same thing but look at the commonsense side of things if either of you are brave enough to put away your foolish pride long enough.
What do you expect when you vote? Do you expect someone to match your photo ID to your voter registration and participate in a fair election process as deemed by our Constitution? Or would you, no matter what, rather have the results favor the political party to which you belong? States have various rules regarding legal voters, but there are two things the voters MUST always be. They must be a CITIZEN of the United States. This is not hard to understand. No citizenship – no ability to vote. The other thing is they must be ALIVE. It is quite difficult for a dead person to mark the ballot and put it in the mail.
I do not believe it is too much to ask for all ballots to be certified by proving the voters' identification and legal right to vote. In fact, this should be done in every single election. Our elections are too vital to our democracy for us to let them be corrupted by those who vote fraudulently or those who encourage this illegal act and make it possible. There should be legal consequences for both. This election should be far from over. EACH absentee ballot should be verified to ensure their validity. Only then will the true winner be known.
Regardless, there have been no real winners this year. The tension has pitted neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother, friend against friend. It has led to violence by many of those on both sides who refuse to be more civilized than a Neanderthal. Each of us have lost this year by idiots on both sides who refuse to play by the rules. People, as far as elections, this is NOT what our forefathers intended! We should take a step back and look at this mess we have made of our democracy and then think of what we can do to find our way back to the Constitution of the United States of America and, more importantly, to one nation under God!
